Asian Medicine and Healthy Living - WEA Sydney

Asian Medicine and Healthy Living

The concept of healthy living can be traced back to ancient Chinese and Indian medical traditions, arguably predating the emergence of the Hippocratic medical school in the West. Huang Di Nei Jing, a foundational text of Chinese medicine believed to have been compiled during the Han dynasty, contains early insights into disease prevention and health preservation. Similarly, historical records show that the Caraka Samhita and Susruta Samhita—two seminal texts in Ayurveda—emphasized maintaining health through daily routines, seasonal practices, and dietary regimens.
With the rapid advancement of digital technology in the 21st century, important questions arise: How can this ancient wisdom of healthy living remain relevant in the digital age? This course explores the principles and practices of healthy living as outlined in Chinese and Indian medicine. Through analysing various health preservation methods, students will gain practical knowledge and skills to cultivate a healthy lifestyle.
