  • Identifying what makes a narrative engaging and authentic for its reader
  • Understanding genre and discovering how to work within and/or challenge its boundaries
  • Using a combination of lived experience and research to enrich writing
  • Finding different ways to commence writing and overcoming those initial writing blocks
  • Understanding structure and its various effects on plot development and the experience of the reader
  • Creating immersive settings
  • Establishing a writing routine and practicing self-discipline
  • The importance of knowing how to provide oneself with constructive feedback at every stage of writing
