This course will introduce a variety of contemporary art history concepts and cultural movements that continue to influence artworks today. Take a deep dive into interesting performance, installation, virtual and conceptual works by contemporary artist.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Art and Time: Analysing the works and concept of time within the contemporary art context, with artists such as Tehching Hsieh, Robert Smithson, Christian Marclay, and Andy Warhol
- The Twisted Figure: The aesthetics of figurative obscurity, with works of Francis Bacon, David Lynch and Deleuze
- Digi-Art - the virtual: Learning the impact of digitalisation on the art world, new innovations and material exploration in internet art featuring artists such as Kyle Macdonald’s website piece, Michael Manning and Roy Ascott.
- The Art of Everyday: Looking at how the everyday comes into play with contemporary art, life and objects that go unnoticed, focusing on theorists such as Michael de Certeau, Yuriko Saito, Maurice Blanchot and Beat Strueli.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Identify art-pieces within a real life context, and extend their knowledge of conceptual art to the everyday
- Gain knowledge on various influential artists and works in the contemporary art world
