Egypt in the Pyramid Age - WEA Sydney

Egypt in the Pyramid Age

The pyramids of ancient Egypt remain some of the world’s greatest and most enduring monumental achievements. For some three hundred years, pyramids were built to house the mortal remains of Egyptian kings and queens. We will explore the function and significance of the pyramid form, and the evolution of its architecture over Egyptian history. While some details how these monuments were built remains elusive, the discovery of the diaries of the Inspector Merer, an official who oversaw a crew of workers, in 2013 provides important new insights into their construction and the lives of their builders.
