French Beginners 1 - F2F (A1)

This course is an introduction to French for any student wishing to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use with no prior knowledge of French required. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing. This course aims to build general basic comprehension and communication skills in beginners French and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.

COURSE OUTLINE

Chapters covered: Dossier 0 to Dossier 1, Lesson 4

• Welcome and farewell, Identify a language, Introduction to verb s’appeler
• Numbers (1-69), Alphabet, Name of countries - Gender of country names
• Definite articles, Date (days, months, seasons), Communicating in class
• Formal and informal greetings, Using tu (informal) or vous (formal), Indefinite articles
• Ask politely, Numbers (70-100), Telephone numbers
• Introducing oneself, Nationalities/professions, Verb « être » - present tense
• Introduce someone, Introduction to conjugations of regular verbs (-er), C’est/il est – elle est
• Accentuation on the last syllabus, alphabet, numbers, verbs, silent letters and verbal liaisons.
• Working on specific sounds, tone, and rhythm.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
2. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
3. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
4. Can demonstrate the skills, language and attitudes required for further study of French.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
