It's All About Rhythm!

Time signatures in written music can sometimes be very daunting to decipher. Examine the ins-and-outs of simple, compound and irregular time signatures and unravel their fascinating purpose and application. For students who are familiar with music notation i.e. crotchets, quavers, minims etc, staves and bar lines.

  • Understanding the top and bottom number with relation to music notation.
  • Why and how rhythm is used in repertoire to create patterns.
  • Thoroughly delving into the terms simple, compound and irregular time.
  • Looking at the relationship between crotchets, quavers and minims in bars.
  • Learning about what the pulse means in rhythm and how to find it.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Recognise any time signature and be able to understand what to count in.
  2. Tap out a rhythm with conviction.
  3. Understand the different uses of notation e.g. crotchets for the pulse.
  4. Count with a metronome with accuracy and confidence.
