This course is an introduction to Vietnamese for any student who wish to learn the language for everyday use, travel or business. Students will be equipped with all the basics of the language with highlights on practical daily conversations, vocabulary and cultural etiquette. Learners will develop speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills through various activities.

  • Basic vocabulary and sentence patterns for ordering food; Talking about food; Must-try dishes in Vietnam
  • Basic verb tenses; Asking and giving directions; Understanding common street signs; traffic etiquette & famous landmarks
  • Basic vocabulary and sentence patterns for having dinner in a Vietnamese home; Having conversations during a meal with Vietnamese people; typical questions during mealtime and dining etiquettes
  • Days of the week, months of the year, and time expressions
  • Basic vocabulary and sentence patterns for daily routines; Work & hobbies; Parts of the day; Telling time
  • Basic vocabulary and sentence patterns for going sightseeing around Vietnam; Checking into a hotel

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Introduce him/herself and ask/answer questions about personal details (hobbies, work, where he/she lives etc.).
  2. Understand and use basic everyday expressions and sentence patterns for selected topics (i.e. food, shopping, direction, etc.).
  3. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
