The WEA Sydney Council is a central part of the organisation’s democratic governance and community-led approach.
Since 1913, WEA Sydney has been shaped by the active involvement of its members, students, and tutors, who contribute directly to its direction and development. The Council brings together elected representatives of students, members, tutors, and affiliated organisations, creating a forum where diverse perspectives inform decision-making alongside the Board and staff.
Council members contribute to discussions on strategy, programs, and organisational priorities. Their input helps shape courses, strengthen community connections, and support the long-term sustainability of the organisation. Through this collaborative model, WEA Sydney maintains its longstanding commitment to accessible, high-quality adult education.
The Council meets regularly and welcomes participation from engaged members of the WEA community.
Students currently enrolled in a course are eligible to nominate as student representatives, reflecting WEA Sydney’s tradition of inclusive governance.
