The Archibald Art Prize - Winners & Controversies
The Archibald Art Prize, established in 1921, is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious art awards. Named after J.F. Archibald, the co-founder of "The Bulletin" magazine, the prize was instituted to foster portraiture and perpetuate the memory of great Australians. The Archibald Art Prize continues to be a cornerstone of the Australian art scene. The history of the prize is rich with innovation and controversy, reflecting the dynamic nature of art and culture. The 2025 results will again bring admiration, disbelief and much discussion. This talk will delve into the AGNSW Archibald and the Salon des Refusés exhibitions.
