In the 1960s Girl Groups came on to the scene and had a profound effect on music. These groups comprised of teen age girls who wanted a career in music. Tonight, we will outline this period and see the major girl groups perform their hits. Included will be the Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, the Marvelettes, the Shangri-Las, Ronettes and many more.

- The development of the Girl Group Sound. Phil Spector, Moto Town, Atlantic records and others. From Gospel to R and B to Teen Pop.
- The structure of the Girl Groups, duets, trios, quartets, to larger groups sometimes even having a male singer included.
- The Evolution of the Girl Groups into modern Rock, R&B, Soul and contemporary. These groups have left their mark.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Appreciate and understand the role of the Girl Groups in the development of Modern Pop Music.
- Identify the Girl Group Sound based on their record label.
- Know some facts and ideas regarding the various Girl Groups 1and what they endured as teenage artists.
