Decision Making Under Ambiguity

When making decisions, we are exhorted to focus on what we know: the facts or the data. However, the most important decisions we are called upon to make are in situations of ambiguity – that is, those in which relevant information is unavailable or unreliable (or both!). How can one make good decisions in ambiguous situations? In this three hour session, participants will learn practical skills that will help them recognise and deal with ambiguous decision situations.

DELIVERY MODE

  • Face-to-Face

COURSE OUTLINE

  • The distinction between uncertainty and ambiguity and how ambiguity affects our perceptions.
  • Recognise ambiguous decision problems in the workplace and in life
  • Tools for making principled decisions under conditions of ambiguity

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Distinguish between uncertain and ambiguous decision problems
  2. Understand how to make decisions under conditions of ambiguity
