Imagine if you were falsely accused of shoplifting and your friends, family and employer found out about the accusation. Your life would be badly damaged, and for a worse crime, ruined. In Australia, those accused of a crime are publicly named – even when the accuser is kept confidential. Is this right? What is the history of this law? Should we change it?
