COURSE OUTLINE

  • Introduction to Cantonese culture
  • Cantonese phonetics and tones (basic sounds and practice)
  • Greetings and personal introductions (name, age, nationality, and country of birth)
  • Everyday expressions (gratitude, apologies, and polite phrases)
  • Asking and answering simple questions
  • Numbers, time, days, months, and seasons
  • Shopping, hobbies, and food culture (yum cha)
  • Family members and relationships
  • Direction, transport and getting around
  • Festivals and cultural celebrations

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Use everyday vocabulary, including greetings, personal introductions, numbers, time, family, shopping, hobbies, and directions.
  2. Apply basic speaking and listening skills to ask and answer simple questions in common daily situations.
  3. Understand key aspects of Cantonese culture and traditions, including festivals and food customs such as yum cha.
