Exploring the Pyramids

The pyramids of ancient Egypt remain some of the world’s greatest and most enduring monumental achievements. For some three hundred years, pyramids were built to house the mortal remains of Egyptian kings and queens. We will explore the function and significance of the pyramid form, and the evolution of its architecture over Egyptian history. While some details of how these monuments were built remain elusive, the 2013 discovery of the diaries of the Inspector Merer, an official who oversaw a crew of workers, provides important new insights into their construction and the lives of their builders.
