In the Footsteps of Dictators - WEA Sydney

In the Footsteps of Dictators

Twentieth century dictators left a trail of destruction in their wake. Pol Pot, Hitler, Ceausescu, Milosevic and Hoxha created physical footprints of their regimes of terror. Whether it be gigantic monuments and stadiums, prisons or underground bunkers, the remnants of these autocrats tell us much about the mindsets of the individual dictators. From neo-classical architecture through to soft and hard propaganda, the actions of tyrants are alive and well in the 21st century world. Whether it be Orban’s Hungary, Putin’s Russia or even Trump’s America the signs are easy to see once you know what to look for.
