In this course we examine Australian poetry and novels of WWI and WWII, such as A.B. Facey’s A Fortunate Life, T.A.G Hungerford's The Ridge and the River, and Dymphna Cusack and Florence James's Come in Spinner.

• Examination of WWI novels / published accounts: A fortunate Life by A.B Facey, Gallipoli diary and sketches by Signaller Ellis Silas
• Examination of WWII novels, T.A.G Hungerford's The Ridge and the River, and Dymphna Cusack and Florence James's Come in Spinner.
• Explore other avenues of poetry and writing, including the Australian Army publications, Soldiering On and Stand Easy.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Appreciate the background to writing of Australian literature about WWI and WWII, both by members of the armed forces and on the home front.
2. Understand the differing views of conflict expressed by writers between WWI and WWII
