In this course we examine Australian poetry and novels of WWI and WWII, such as A.B. Facey’s A Fortunate Life, T.A.G Hungerford's The Ridge and the River, and Dymphna Cusack and Florence James's Come in Spinner.

- Examination of WWI novels / published accounts: A fortunate Life by A.B Facey, Gallipoli diary and sketches by Signaller Ellis Silas
- Examination of WWII novels, T.A.G Hungerford's The Ridge and the River, and Dymphna Cusack and Florence James's Come in Spinner.
- Explore other avenues of poetry and writing, including the Australian Army publications, Soldiering On and Stand Easy.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Appreciate the background to writing of Australian literature about WWI and WWII, both by members of the armed forces and on the home front.
- Understand the differing views of conflict expressed by writers between WWI and WWII
