Volunteering often depends on working well with others, yet these skills are rarely discussed openly. This course explores communication, teamwork and relationship-building in volunteer settings, helping participants navigate differences, expectations and shared purpose. Designed with volunteers and retirees in mind, the course focuses on making volunteering more effective, enjoyable and sustainable. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and develop practical strategies for positive collaboration.

  • Explore Positive Psychology & Strengths theory.
  • Be introduced to Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence theory.
  • Consider Tuckman’s Team Dynamics.
  • Use personal surveys & team activities to facilitate learning.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Gain an understanding of Self & Others theories.
  2. Be able to articulate & reflect on Emotional Intelligence.
  3. Reflect on how these ideas can enhance the Volunteer Experience.
