This walking course explores Sydney’s social geography from ridge tops to low-lying streets. We examine how class, institutions and urban planning shaped Darlinghurst and Surry Hills, revealing stories of prisons, churches, schools and reform. By reading buildings and landscapes, participants gain insight into how inequality and aspiration were built into the city itself.

Meet at the Liverpool Street side of the Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park 10 minutes before the tour starts at 10am so it can commence on time.

• Steep hills at the beginning and end of the tour: suitable for robust walkers
• No toilets/bubblers, with very few places to sit.

This walk will go ahead whatever the weather, except where the guide deems there to be a threat to health and safety. In this situation you will be contacted with an alternative date.
