In 2026, the United States marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence. This course explores what that anniversary means at a moment of deep division, international uncertainty and competing ideas about America’s role in the world.

You’ll look at the founding vision behind the Declaration, the symbolism of the semiquincentennial, and the debates now shaping the country’s future. The course also considers official commemorations, including Trump’s Task Force 250, alongside wider public arguments about greatness, decline and national purpose.
