Purpose
WEA Sydney is committed to maintaining the integrity and credibility of its training and assessment. Students must demonstrate their own learning and competency in all assessment tasks.
What is Plagiarism
Plagiarism occurs when someone presents another person’s work, ideas or words as their own without proper acknowledgement. Examples include:
- copying text from books, websites or other students
- submitting work written by another person
- using AI-generated content without acknowledgement
- reusing previous work without permission
- copying assessment answers
Academic Integrity
Students are expected to:
- submit their own work
- acknowledge sources of information
- follow instructions provided by trainers and assessors
- demonstrate their own competency
Assessment Authenticity
Trainers and assessors may use methods such as:
- verbal questioning
- practical demonstrations
- supervised assessment tasks
- plagiarism detection tools
- review of drafts or progress work
Suspected Plagiarism
If plagiarism is suspected:
- The student will be informed
- The assessment may be reviewed
- The student may be asked to resubmit work or demonstrate competency again
- reassessment requirements
- disciplinary action
- removal from a course
